It’s been decades since a bill was blasted to the House floor, Saavedra says

Rep. Sandra Jeff, D-Crownpoint, asked Rep. Andy Nunez if the House had ever blasted a bill out of committee.

“Since I’ve been here, they haven’t done it,” said Nunez, who has served in the House for 11 years.

“So this has never happened?” Jeff said.

“It has, but it’s been awhile,” Nunez responded.

Jeff wanted to know when exactly that was.

Nunez said he didn’t know.

Rep. Henry “Kiki” Saavedra, D-Albuquerque, and the chairman of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee, rose to speak to provide more information.

“In the 34 or 35 years I’ve been here we’ve never blasted a bill out of committee,” Saavedra said.
